Able Ships Ltd – Expert Commercial Surveys
Marsden Marine Services works exclusively with Able Ships Ltd for commercial surveys. Many of the Marine Surveyors, Naval Architects and Specialist Surveyors from Able Ships Ltd are also recognised by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), and are available to carry out a wide range of commercial surveys and approval work. Able Ships is also recognised as a National Inspection Agency, and can carry out approval, inspection and testing of all ships’ lifting appliances and loose cargo gear.
Marsden Marine Services Ltd also provides the IMCI (International Marine Certification Institute) capability to Able Ships to undertake Post Construction Assessments (PCA)’s and inspect vessel and vessel components for CE certification for export to the European community and CA for the UK.

Design Approval
Review and approval of designs and plans for new construction, modifications and repairs, and approvals of existing vessels. This can include lifting equipment and electrical design approval and system inspections (undertaken by Specialist Surveyors).
Commercial Surveys – Initial & Periodic
Our surveyors carry out a wide range of different commercial surveys. In addition to the standard periodic surveys, there are load line surveys, lifting equipment inspections, barge safety surveys, and special surveys after repairs and modifications.
Stability
Preparation and issue of new stability books and assessment of existing stability books, measure hull lines, carry out swamp test calculations and heeling tests. For some vessels we assess safe stability while using lifting equipment and provide stability information for the loading of barges.
Load Line
Assess vessels for the load line requirements in accordance with Maritime Rule 47, and the International Load Line Regulations, and determine the exact load line locations. The surveyors carry out conditions of assignment surveys, for items such as ventilators and hatches.
Tonnage
Measurement and calculation in accordance with Maritime Rule 48, and the International Tonnage Convention. We submit the documents to MNZ who issue the certificates.
National Inspection Agency for Lifting Appliances
Commercial surveys also include the approval, inspection and testing of all ships’ lifting appliances and loose cargo gear, as required by Rule 49 and other standards.
Maritime Labour Convention
For ships that requiring MLC Certificates, our surveyors carry out surveys in accordance with Maritime Rule 52, and we submit the documents to MNZ who issue the certificates.
Maritime Transport Operators Plan (MTOP)
As part of the Commercial Survey process we can provide services to assist vessel operators to produce their MTOP (Maritime Transport Operators Plan), this can be from as little as a review of your own MTOP before submitting, or gathering information and providing the complete manuals and other documents.
